Core Information

Rabam Champa Si

Creator:Mahasarakham University

"Rabam Champa Si" is a performance created to commemorate the historical prosperity of the ancient Champa Si Kingdom (spanning the Dvaravati and Lopburi periods) in Na Dun District, Maha Sarakham Province. The piece was inspired by the 1979 archaeological discoveries of ancient artifacts and holy relics, which led to the construction of Phra That Na Dun, often regarded as the Buddhist center of Isan. Choreographed by Asst. Prof. Dr. Chonlaphat (Chatchawan) Wongprasert from Srinakharinwirot University Maha Sarakham (currently Mahasarakham University), the dance features a unique fusion of choreography. It utilizes Isan folk dance movements—such as Phu Thai, Tangwai, and Sang Sinxay—for dynamic motions, and seamlessly transitions into static postures derived from Dvaravati archaeological dances and regional stone carvings, all accompanied by traditional Isan Mahori music.
